Galaxy Evolution in the Large Scale Structure
The surrounding environment of galaxies on large scales is a complex mixtures of near empty regions known as voids, long thin filamentary structures and where multiple filaments cross, clusters and groups of galaxies. We use numerical simulations to better understand the implications of the large scale structure (LSS) for the formation and evolution of galaxies. We model how environmental effects in clusters and groups are related to their location in the LSS. We also study the orbits of galaxies entering and crossing filaments. We attempt to understand the observed coherence between galaxy rotation and surrounding motions of galaxies out to ~10 Mpc distances. We apply advanced computational techniques to trace out the LSS in novel and precise ways.
